I've always seen Mello Yello in Florida so it never really went anywhere. I like it.

It was a regional thing until now, as many states are only getting if now. They seem serious with it this time, they even launched it in Japan.
I do hope they bring back the melon one too, as it was pretty much the best MY, and Mountain Dew doesn't offer a melon flavor, yet.

I liked Cactus Cooler better.
Isn't weird to have a sponsor like Mello Yello with NHRA? Top fuel isn't mello.

They were trying to hard to sound cool, like cooler? Really? Still, you can ask coke for a pineapple-orange Mello Yello. They know they can't beat MD with only a basic citrus flavor.

Got confusled by the NHRA logo, thinking it was sponsored by a bunch of gun nuts, took a quick Google to realise it was about racing in women's clothes.

Woh, Mello Yello? Talk aabout a blast from the past. We had that for a few years back in the 90's- hell we had a band whose named was inspired by it (they were called Yellow Molo.) Then the drink went away without a trace...and the band too.

Nope, they changed the name and formula, in the states that was a slow seller. They got better names, like Surge and Vault, but eventually canceled those. Wonder how far they can go with marketing and development costs, this time.

I don't remember seeing Surge or Vault up here (I live in Quebec, Canada). I just remember that that drink existed, and then it didn't.

Found a nice vintage ad:
We've had it in the Deep South pretty much since it debuted.
Doesn't get the nostalgia like RC Cola does though:

Not the first time with th NHRA. Note the forward control drag truck in the background.

Let's hope they won't do what they did with Vault, the execs had to pick between cherry and melon, and they picked cherry, just because the execs themselves liked the flavor better. Of course it got smashed by Mountain Dew Code Red with more than 8 to 1 units sold. If they had picked melon, than I'm sure that the lack of competition, would've made it a winner.

I wonder, if Coke plans to take this thing global, are we gonna see Mello Yello on WTCC, DTM, WRC or SuperGT cars? And does something called Mello Yello, really have the hardcore spirit of motorsports, in its brand DNA?

I wouldn't think about it that hard. Mild Seven was on the Bennetons in the hey day. Doesn't exactly sound aggressive. Gold Leaf, Goodrich, DuPont, Penzoil, and the list goes on. You don't have to have a tough sounding name to be a successful sponsor and get name recognition.

Coke's Burn energy, sounds a lot better, unless you put it on a Ferrari. They should've made a Mountain Dew rival out of that(since they have many other energy drinks in their stack of brands(and still want to buy Monster)), but with something red, instead of green, as the main flavor, and a citrus version as an immediate expansion. And that's what Coke misses, the ability to see opportunities of change for its brands and the youthful boldness to take them and use them.

I wonder if that truck is one of the wheelstanders like the little red wagon...
